It begins at your doorstep. This is to say that the whole Camino is the
one that begins at your house and that there is no other place for the
Camino to “begin.” If you cannot start from home, which is what
commonly happens, start wherever works best given the amount of time
you have available to walk or the place that is easiest for you to
reach.
As a point of reference, keep in mind that to walk from Roncesvalles
you need at least a month. From Somport, 35 days; from Logrono, 23
days; from Burgos, 20; from Leon, 16; from Ponferrada, 13.
Besides, now there are many other marked and signed routes to Santiago
in addition to the Camino Frances (French Road) and its Aragonese
branch. We can walk the Via de la Plata (Way of Silver), the Interior
Camino, the Portuguese, the English, the Ruta de la Lana (the Wool
Route), the Ebro Camino… If you are doing the Camino for the first
time, follow the Camino Frances . The drawback is that it is the most
traveled, but it is full of history, tradition, and spirituality
wherever you step. |
