Wanting nothing else than to enjoy what we have. We must have a good
deal of flexibility. Many things happen that depend on factors that our
not in our hands.
Something we learn quickly on the Camino is the futility of planning
ahead. We are full of expectations, but daily reality demands that they
change. It teaches us to live in the present with no desire other than
to enjoy what we have. We must have a good deal of flexibility. Many
things happen that depend on factors that our not in our hands. We want
to take control of life, but life ends up taking control of us. We are
continually preparing and planning for the future. We are trying to
control everything. We have accepted as our goal an ideal wellbeing,
and we cannot let events ruin it for us. But this way of thinking is a
useless strain since the more we plan, the less free time we have. We
have the feeling of being dragged down by life instead of being in
control. We abandon ourselves to fatalism or we get lost in the
crowd. But the main reason is that life is stronger than us and
we cannot control it. When you least expect it, strokes of good luck or
misfortune appear. |
